About Us
Our Purpose
Our purpose is twofold: First, to grow food for the Marshfield community, both for those experiencing food insecurity and for the community at-large with a “help yourself” garden. Second, we also aim to build community.
By growing food at our town center, we serve our common needs for healthy food and human connection.
Marshfield is a small town with wide socioeconomic diversity. In the midst of a divisive political climate and a global pandemic, the Marshfield Community Garden is one way to bring us together and remind us of our shared humanity.
To that end, our group works in partnership with the Marshfield Conservation Commission to plant perennial food crops on the village commons (fruit and nut trees, berries, rhubarb & asparagus). Jointly, we have developed a 5-year plan for these plantings. We also partner with the Jaquith Library to sponsor educational workshops on planting & growing, and with the Onion River Foodshelf for input into what crops to grow, and to invite their patrons to visit, harvest, and/or participate in the community garden.

"The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul."
