Our Purpose
By growing food at our town center, we serve our common needs for healthy food and human connection.
Our purpose is twofold: First, to grow food for the Marshfield community, both for those experiencing food insecurity and for the community at-large with a “help yourself” garden. Second, we also aim to build community.
Community Projects
Donating Food
In summer of 2020 we filled most of our beds with veggies that, in addition to being available to the general community, were donated to the food shelf to help local families. We plan to continue growing food for our local community while increasing yields as much as possible.
Creating Community Plots
We made a few of our plots available to be used by households growing food for their families. We will offer more beds for families as the need arises.
Expanding Food Production
We teamed up with the Marshfield Conservation Commission to develop a multi year plan to plant fruit and nut trees, shrubs, berries and perennial vegetable plantings all over the Old School House Common grounds. We are coordinating workshops during these plantings so that those who are interested can help.
Learning New Skills
We did our first workshop in the Fall of 2020 and planted chestnut trees with Nicko Rubin from East Hill Tree Farm.
